Donna M’s review was dead on. I couldn’t have said it any better! At times, I found the characters were frustrating. At other times, I found myself skipping over the silly thoughts between Rory and Isabel.

The MacLeods are a powerful Highland clan. Their chief, Rory MacLeod,
is brave and daring. His duty is to protect his clan and avenge any
wrongs done to them. One such wrong has led Rory to swear vengeance
on the MacDonald clan. When the king orders Rory to wed Isabel
MacDonald, the two enter a handfast marriage. Although Rory plans to
send Isabel home after a year and a day, he finds it hard to resist
the incredibly beautiful woman.
Isabel MacDonald has been sent by her uncle and father to spy on the
MacLeod clan. Charged to use whatever means available to her, she is
to discover MacLeod secrets. Secrets held only by the chief himself,
Rory MacLeod. Rory arouses feeling in Isabel she never experienced
before. Isabel also becomes friends with Rory’s siblings. For the
first time, Isabel finds happiness. Faced with betraying her uncle
and father or the happiness she has found with the MacLeods, Isabel

i really wanted these characters to be together. Highlander books are my favorite ones. I’ve read two in this trilogy and have the third one at home this is a good read.

I couldn’t believe this book was so well written. The characters of Rory and Isabel are so natural and believable, they jump off the pages.
The story is well paced, moody, intelligent, and fresh, and you don’t get the same old standard filler. King James decides to handfast Rory, the MacLeod chief to his enemies daugther, Isabel MacDonald to end the conflict between the clans. Creative writing and strong dialog, I couldn’t put the book down. Even the secondary characters of Alex and Margaret are written with dimension and skill, and the writer never loses track of her story.
