So, while we loved the first set – my four year old quickly progressed through the entire set, it seems that the format of the sets has suddenly changed so that the first set being sold has fewer books and the missing books comprise the first half of the second set. So now, I either have to buy a set that is half books we already own, or else we have to skip to the next set and my daughter will miss out on the lessons taught in the last half of the books in the new second set. This is just wrong. So, we are going to have to find a new reading program.

I checked this kit out from the library before buying. We used the ones from the library over and over again so I bought them. I intended to use them with my five year old and she loved them. I was pleasantly surprised when my three year old starting reading from them. They words to read in the books follow a gradual progression and my girls loved reading a book, “all by themselves.”

We call them Magic books because if your child knows his letter sounds they will be able to pick them up and READ!
We started the first set of BOB books pre -K. I did not read the books to my son he read them to me.
If you would like to get a head start on reading the BOB books are the way to go.

I used bob books to teach my kids to read. I have 2 girls, who are now 5 & 8. Both started reading their 1st bob book when they were 3.5 yrs old, and took 1.5 years to from from Set 1 Book 1 to Set 5’s last book “The King”. And voila — at age 5, they started reading “regular” books. I am forever going to be grateful to bob books for teaching my kids to read !!!
The books gently introduced diff sounds and gradually moved to the more complex stuff. I have a friend whose kid just turned 4, and I gave them Sets 1-3 as a gift.

We have been using the Bob Books series to help our daughter increase her reading skills and they are fantastic. I’d recommend them to anyone with a 4-6 year old child.
